Says he attends AIPAC's conference every year

"I go to AIPAC every year and would have been there had I not had a direct conflict."

Wiener made the comment after activists with the Expose AIPAC Coalition suggested pressure had kept him from a December 14, 2015 AIPAC-linked dinner.

Participated in pressure campaign that pushed out Sonoma State's president for agreeing to academic boycott of Israel

"Yesterday the President of Sonoma State University aligned the campus with BDS, a movement whose goal is the destruction of Israel, home to 7M Jews. … The mask is off."

Wiener posted this after Sonoma State President Mike Lee reached an agreement with pro-Palestinian protesters that included a boycott of Israeli academic institutions. Two days later, the CSU chancellor placed Lee on leave; he resigned soon after. Wiener was publicly identified, alongside Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel and the Jewish Community Relations Council, as one of the legislators and groups pressuring the CSU system over the deal.

Should legislators be bullying academic institutions?

Coauthors AB 1468, an earlier version of the K-12 censorship push

Scott Wiener was a principal coauthor of AB 1468, a pro-Israel censorship bill. A UC Santa Cruz professor said it would "disallow the critical teaching of Palestine within K-12 education." The bill's authors pulled it from an Assembly Education Committee hearing on May 14, 2025, after public opposition; it was never brought back for a vote and died automatically at the end of the two-year legislative session.

Coauthors AB 715, the K-12 pro-Israel censorship bill

Wiener coauthored pro-Israel censorship bill AB 715, which creates a governor-appointed antisemitism prevention coordinator for K-12 schools to stifle free speech and stop teachers from discussing and students from learning about the history of Palestine.

The bill's supporters conflate antisemitism with criticism of Israel and support for Palestine, meaning classroom material and teacher discourse on Palestine or Gaza can be flagged as discriminatory. Districts must "investigate and take corrective action" on flagged material, offending materials must be "immediately and permanently omitted," and districts risk losing state funding for noncompliance.

The bill was signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom on October 7, 2025.

Declines to answer on genocide, then says Israel committed it

At a January 7 forum, Wiener did not answer whether Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, while opponents Connie Chan and Saikat Chakrabarti said yes. Four days later he posted a video reversing course.

"The Israeli government has tried to destroy Gaza and to push Palestinians out, and that qualifies as genocide."
